Australian Citizens and permanent residents may sponsor their biological or adopted child for a child visa.

Child Visas

 

For Child or adoption visas, the following expenses are likely to be incurred:

  • Visa Application Charge: $2,370;
  • Medical Checks: approximately $430 each, payable to medical officer;
  • Australian Federal Police (AFP) check for you: $45 payable to AFP;
  • Police checks for the children: approx.. $50 each, payable to relevant authority;
  • DNA testing (if required): approximately $1,650
  • International postage: approximately $200
  • Professional fees: $1,500 (excluding GST).

 
The following items are required for the application:

  • Visa application charge, payable by bank cheque or money order;
  • Certified photocopy of your Australian Visa;
  • Certified photocopy of your children’s birth certificates;
  • 2 original passport photographs of each applicant;
  • Certified photocopies of photo ID documents for each applicant;
  • Your recent pay slips;

An Assurance of Support (AOS) may be requested by the Minister for Immigration after the application is lodged if the applicants are assessed as a risk of becoming a charge on the Australian social welfare system (Centrelink). An AOS is a legal commitment by a person (‘Assurer’) to repay to the government the amount of any welfare payments made to the applicant within the first two years after the applicant enters Australia / is granted their visa. The Assurer does not have to be the sponsor. The following welfare payments are recoverable under an AOS:

    • Newstart Allowance
    • Partner Allowance
    • Youth Allowance
    • Austudy Allowance
    • Widow Allowance
    • Parenting Payment (Partnered)
    • Special Benefit
    • Crisis Payment

Orphan Relative Visa 117 (Class AH)

The estimated timeframe for processing these applications is approximately 14 months and the following expenses are likely to be incurred:

  • Visa Application Charge: $1,450
  • Bank cheque / money order: up to $10
  • Birth and Death Certificates: fees payable to supplier
  • Health checks: approximately $430 each (x2 = $860)
  • Australian Federal Police check: $42
  • Overseas Police checks (if requested): fee payable
  • Assurance of Support bond (if requested): $7,000 – returned after two years, Centrelink payments deducted
  • Representation by Migration Lawyer: $1,500
  • Goods and Services Tax: $150
  • Printing and Postage to Pakistan: $75

At the time of lodging the application, you require the following documents:

  • Form 47CH Application, signed by each applicant (attached);
  • Form 40CH Sponsorship signed by the sponsor (attached);
  • Bank cheque or money order made out to DIAC in the sum of $1,260;
  • Certified photocopy of the sponsor’s Australian permanent visa – Received 1 March 2013;
  • Evidence of the sponsor’s employment during the last two years, such as payslips, tax assessment notices, letter from sponsor confirming length of employment and annual salary;
  • Birth Certificates for applicants and sponsor;
  • Death certificates for parents of applicants and sponsor;
  • Original or certified photocopies and certified translations of ID documents of each applicant and sponsor;
  • Australian Federal Police Check in the name of the Sponsor.
