Points for age, English language ability, Australian study and regional sponsorship may lead to an invitation to apply for Skilled Independent Visas and state nominations.

SkillSelect

SkillSelect is a database operated by the Australian Department of Home Affairs in which a candidate may lodge an expression of interest and it is kept on the system for two years. State sponsors may access the list and select candidates; and/or the department may invite them to apply for one of the following visas:

1. Skilled – Independent 189
2. Skilled – Nominated 190
3. Skilled – Regional 489 (Temporary visa, leads to PR after 2 years)

Expressions of Interests are free of charge and are valid for two years. However, there is no guarantee that applicants will be offered to apply for any visa through the SkillSelect model, and there is no bridging visa associated with an expression of interest. In order to be considered, a minimum of 65 points are required in the Points Test, however competition for invitations tends to drive points required up to 75 and beyond.
